Books and films for review

horrorunderground@horrorunderground.org

Review requests for horror books, poetry collections, features, and short films go to the same submission inbox, with the format notes below.

When you write, say which category the work belongs in — book or film — and attach or offer the review copy format listed in the guidelines. Physical copies can be mailed on request if a digital file is not available.

Submission Guidelines

Timing and formats
What to expect, by submission type
Type Typical turnaround Preferred copy
Books About 60 days out from the date they are submitted. Digital copies, with MOBI preferred.
Films Quicker — often within a week. Digital screeners.
Either As scheduled after the copy arrives. Physical copies can be mailed upon request.

If your title has a projected release date, a sale date, or any other timeline for promotional purposes, mention it in the email and it will be taken into consideration when the review is scheduled.

Because book reviews run roughly two months behind submission, earlier contact gives a better chance of matching a planned announcement.

Whether you are reaching out about a question regarding site navigation or simply want to share your latest DIY horror-themed decorating project, the contact page serves as the central hub for all communication. The team behind Horror Underground values community input and strives to respond to every inquiry in a timely manner. From suggestions about new decorating trends to feedback on featured articles, every message helps shape the content that appears across the site. Readers often share photographs of their own spooky season transformations, including creative uses of cheesecloth ghosts, carved pumpkin displays, and outdoor yard decorations that push the fear factor to new heights. This exchange of ideas keeps the horror decorating community thriving and growing.

For creators and publishers looking to submit books, films, or collectibles for review consideration, the appropriate channel is clearly designated to ensure your materials reach the right hands. The review team focuses on horror-adjacent media that aligns with the site's decorating and lifestyle angle, looking for pieces that inspire readers to incorporate eerie aesthetics into their everyday living spaces. Whether it is a guide to retro horror interior design or a film that captures a particular color palette worth recreating at home, the review process considers how each submission might translate into actionable decorating ideas for the audience. Submissions should reflect the spirit of making one's home both beautiful and delightfully unsettling.

Social media feeds offer another excellent way to connect with the Horror Underground community and catch previews of upcoming reviews and decorating guides before they appear on the main site. Following along provides daily inspiration drawn from a wide range of sources, including trending color palettes, DIY wall decor tutorials, and seasonal transformation projects for every room of the house. The social presence mirrors the clean, bright aesthetic of the website itself, featuring vivid turquoise accents against white backgrounds that pop alongside warm-toned photographs of haunted home interiors. Engaging with posts, sharing your own horror decor journey, and tagging the account are all encouraged as the community continues to expand its collective appreciation for spooky yet stylish home design.

Before You Write

Quick checklist

Include the title, the format you can supply, and any dates that matter to you. For films, note the runtime and whether it is a feature or a short. For books, note the page count and whether a print copy would need to be mailed instead.
